Current Release

Bremerton 2006 "Old Adam" Reserve Shiraz

Langhorne Creek, South Australia

Background

Bremerton Old Adam Shiraz is released in very limited parcels and is a result of fastidious vineyard, batch and barrel selection. The Old Adam is a combination of parcels of wine from the best blocks of estate grown Shiraz grapes at Langhorne Creek. The outstanding 2004 wine is an excellent example of premium Bremerton Shiraz, showing intensity of rich fruit flavors and elegant integrated oak, providing a delicious well structured complex wine that will benefit with careful cellaring. Bremerton are in a unique position to be able to keep all parcels of wine separate from the time of picking through fermentation to oak maturation. The most outstanding parcels of Shiraz are allowed extended maturation before being blended to create the Old Adam. This process allows Bremertom to maintain the quality distinction of this fine wine.

Winemaking Notes

The low yielding, high quality parcel selections of fruit were fermented in open vats with the cap wet twice daily. This wine was pressed to oak for the completion of malolactic fermentation, then matured for 21 months in new premium selected extra fine grain American oak barriques from a range of cooperages. After 21 months oak maturation the parcels were evaluated and barrel selections made for blending based on flavor concentration, texture and tannin profile.

Tasting Notes

The color is dark crimson. The bouquet is a rich and penetrating combination of ripe blackberry fruit and sweet American oak. The palate is dense, concentrated and complex with ripe berry, plums, dark chocolate and sweet integrated vanillan oak with velvety tannins and an exceptionally long, powerful, lingering finish. This wine is drinking beautifully now and will develop further for some 10 to 12 years. A perfect partner for the very best of foods.

Reviews

91+ The 2006 Old Adam Shiraz was aged for 21 months in new American oak. Purple in color, it displays a restrained nose of pain grille, pencil lead, violets, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Richer and more structured than its siblings, this balanced effort will benefit from 3-4 years of additional bottle age and drink well from 2013 to 2021. Wine Advocate
