Bremerton 2006 "Tamblyn"Langhorne Creek, South Australia
Background The family name Tamblyn is in recognition of winemaker Rebecca Willson’s grandmother’s ancestors who migrated to Australia from Cornwall, England. The four outstanding red grape varieties all grown in Langhorne Creek have been blended to provide us with a generous and well balanced wine showing lifted violet and spicy aromas, rich mouth filling dark fruits, complementing soft well integrated tannins and a flavoursome savoury lingering finish. The concept behind the "Tamblyn" blend was developed when Bremerton decided they wanted to craft a wine that people were able to appreciate that night or cellar for a few years. They have blended a complex flavored wine by utilizing the characters of each of the varieties, at the same time achieving a soft well rounded approachable palate structure.
Winemaking Notes Tamblyn is a blend not only of four different varieties but different parcel selections of varieties picked throughout the 2006 vintage. The 2006 Tamblyn is a selection of fruit separately fermented in open top fermenters for up to eight days allowing maximum extraction of color and flavor. The parcels were matured in new, one and two year old American and French oak barriques (225L) for 19 months prior to evaluation, blending and bottling. Post barrel, individual ferment parcels were subjected to blending trials to create the desired style definition, focusing on the components structure, texture and fruit concentration to achieve a complex fruit profile, complemented by a silky mouth feel. The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration before receiving further bottle maturation for a minimum of 15 months. This has allowed for a full fusion of rich flavors and integrated tannins. The Tamblyn blend is 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Shiraz, 13% Malbec and 7% Merlot. The four outstanding red grape varieties all grown in Langhorne Creek have been blended to provided a generous and well balanced wine.
Tasting Notes The color is a dark saturated purple. The bouquet exhibits lovely lifted violet, cassis and ripe cherry aromas with hints of vanilla, spice and toasty oak. The palate is a reflection of the bouquet with more rich mouth filling cassis fruit, and layers of spice, vanilla essence and toasty oak complementing soft well integrated tannins and a flavorsome savory lingering finish. Tamblyn is soft enough to drink now or reward with cellaring for approximately 4 to 5 years. Enjoy with meat, pasta, cheese or at anytime.

Reviews 89 The 2006 Tamblyn is composed of 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Shiraz, 13% Malbec, and 7% Merlot. The wine was aged in a mix of new and used French and American oak for 19 months. Purple-colored, it offers up aromas of violets, cassis, black cherry, and blueberry. Medium to full-bodied, on the palate spice notes, cedar, and an amalgam of red and black fruits emerge. There is enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years although it can be enjoyed now. Wine Advocate For a printer friendly version of this page click here
