Matilda Plains 2008 Sauvignon Blanc

Langhorne Creek and Currency Creek, South Australia

Background

Matilda Plains is an exciting new range from the Bremerton stable. Bremerton is a small family owned winery in the prestigious Langhorne Creek region of South Australia. Matilda Plains provides modern, unique, and delicious wines. The distinctive label features the Willson family’s much loved border collie Matilda (or ‘Tilly’ for short) helping in the vineyard. This Sauvignon Blanc has been made from fruit grown in Langhorne Creek as well as fruit from the neighboring Currency Creek region and has captured the true characteristics of this aromatic variety.

Winemaking Notes

Only free run juice, extracted post crushing, is used giving clean fresh phenolic free juice that is then settled and racked bright without filtration to be inoculated. Each parcel is inoculated with different yeast to enhance the fruit expression and mid palate weight and fermented cool. The wine was cold stabilized and bottled straight away to retain freshness and primary fruit characteristics so highly sought after. If you are looking for a fresh, drink anytime wine that will please most palates, this is it – a wine made for enjoyment.

Tasting Notes

This zesty Sauvignon Blanc blend is a very pale straw in color providing wonderfully fresh herbaceous aromas balanced by a lively palate displaying a touch of green apple and citrus with good acid structure and a crisp refreshing finish. A perfect partner to salad, white meat, slightly spicy Asian and Mediterranean food or just to enjoy on its own - serve chilled. The wine is made to drink at a young age.

Reviews

88 The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc is stainless steel fermented and aged. It offers up aromas of baking spices, fresh herbs, green apple, and citrus. Light in body, it has savory flavors, a vibrant palate feel, and a refreshing finish. Drink it over the next 12-18 months. Wine Advocate
