Bremerton 2007 VerdelhoLanghorne Creek, South Australia
The owners of Bremerton Wines have always been passionate about using 100% regional Langhorne Creek fruit. Verdelho has been grown in the area for over 150 years, so it seemed logical that one of the whites Bremerton produced should be Verdelho. Having their own small batch winery facility puts them in a position to be able to keep all parcels of their fruit separate from the time of picking through fermentation to oak maturation.
The Verdelho is blended from a number of different blocks within the Langhorne Creek region. The picking date is based on maximizing the varietal flavors in the fruit, while maintaining a refreshing level of natural acidity. A typical Baume at harvest is between 13 to 13.5. The grapes are harvested in the cool of the morning to capture and preserve their delicate aromatics and favor profile.
The Verdelho is made using only free run juice, and minimal skin contact prior to ferment. This has given expression to primary fruit characters. There is a combination of several fermentation parcels picked at varying ripeness levels providing added depth and complexity to the flavor profile. No oak was used in the production of this wine.
The color is a very pale straw. The bouquet is full of vibrant tropical fruit aromas. The palate shows subtle pear favors with a touch of citrus giving the wine mid-palate complexity. It’s complimented by a soft acid structure and a lingering finish that will please most palates - a delightfully fresh wine. This wine is made to drink young to enjoy the primary fruit characters. Serve chilled with salads, white meats, seafood, spicy Asian or Indian foods.
Alcohol: 13% pH: 3.3 TA: 6.5g/l Residual Sugar: 4.1g/l
93 (2006 Vintage) Much more personality and life than the vast majority if Verdelho’s; a really bright lemon twist on top of the fruit salad adds both flavor and length. James Halliday - 2008 Australian Wine Companion
