Centennial
Vineyards has 80 acres under vine consisting of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir,
Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Verdelho, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and an early
ripening Spanish Varietal - Tempranillo. Centennial Vineyards produce both
Estate grown wine as well as wine made from small parcels of premium fruit
sourced from other regions. This enhances their range and allows for better
continuity of wine quality from year to year. All wines are crafted on site in
their own state-of-the-art winery allowing them to harness maximum aroma and
flavor.
The
Centennial Reserve Pinot Noir was grown in the cool climate Orange region of New
South Wales. The fruit is from only one vineyard. This wine was made in many
small batches (400-500 kg each) with varying treatments of whole bunch
percentages, stalk inclusion and yeast strain. It was fermented to 30 C. All
components were kept separate till blending. The blend as a whole typically
contained 15% whole bunch, 15% stalk inclusion. The wine was matured in French
oak of which 15% was new, and the balance was one and two years old. The wine is
not filtered.
The color is
a light red-purple. The bouquet exudes complex ripe berry fruit with some spice
and earthy notes. The palate is ripe and full with a layering of plum, cherry,
spice and bacony characters and well integrated oak characters present. The wine
is drinking well now but definitely worth cellaring for 4 to 5 years.
