Matilda Plains 2005 Shiraz Cabernet Merlot

Langhorne Creek, South Australia

Matilda Plains is an exciting new range from the Bremerton stable. Bremerton is a small family owned winery in the prestigious Langhorne Creek region of South Australia. Matilda Plains provides modern, unique, and delicious wines. The distinctive label features the Willson family’s much loved border collie Matilda (or ‘Tilly’ for short) helping in the vineyard. Cabernet, Shiraz and Merlot have traditionally been grown in Langhorne Creek for over 100 years.

This delicious red wine has been carefully blended to provide a generous and well balanced palate displaying mouth filling fruit, complementing soft well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish. The 2005 Matilda Plains Cabernet Shiraz Merlot was fermented in open top fermenters allowing for maximum extraction of color and flavor. The wine was matured in American oak barriques for 10 months prior to blending and bottling. The blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Shiraz and 8% Merlot.

The color is deep crimson with good clarity. The nose is rich and intense with ripe mulberries and blackberries, chocolate and earthy complexities. The wine displays rich mouth-filling dark berry and cherry fruit characters with hints of chocolate, licorice and spice. Elegant tannins and a long lingering finish ensure this wine is soft enough to drink now or will reward with cellaring for a further 3 to 4 years. This wine is great with many different foods including beef, lamb or cheese or just sip away and enjoy the layers of flavor.
