Background Bodegas Amador Garcia a family owned winery with a long tradition in producing D.O. Ca. Rioja wines in the village of Baños de Ebro (in the sub-area of Rioja Alavesa). Amador García Chávarri started selling his own wine in 1969, in his home town of Vitoria. In 1985, he decided to build the actual premises in Baños de Ebro and named the winery "Bodegas Amador García". His idea was to produce better wines helped by new technologies such as the stainless steel tanks to control temperature fermentation and to use a modern bottling line that could cope with all the increasing demand in young wines (red, rosé and white).
In 2000, these premises in Baños de Ebro were enlarged in order to allow storage of oak barrels (mainly French) and start elaboration of matured wines. The first Crianza to be released into the market was the vintage 2001. The family owns a small percentage of all vineyards used for their wines and the rest are managed by the family who indicates specific tasks such as treatments, pruning, harvesting, etc. Today is the new generation who is in charge of the vinification, Rosa García is the wine maker, and her brothers Jorge and Iñigo are in charge of the vineyard management, winery and administrative matters. Their father Amador Garcia (who gives the name to the winery) is still involved in the new project of the winery focused in the elaboration of their traditional and modern Rioja wines.
The second generation has produced a very special wine as a tribute to their father's long dedication to the wine. The "Amador García Special Selection" reflects the "high expression" of a superb modern-style Rioja wine made of Tempranillo and a touch of Graciano and then matured in French oak and bottle. |
