The Ribera del Duero does not extend all the way along the banks of the River Duero. The wines come from a specific area where nature is unique and the land is very special. The lands included in the Ribera del Duero Designation are located on Spain‘s northern plateau. Four of the provinces of the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León come together in the Ribera del Duero: Burgos, Segovia, Soria and Valladolid. The River Duero is the axis uniting more than 100 villages spread out over a wine growing belt which is some 115 kilometers long by 35 kilometers wide.

Bodega y Viñedo Fuentecén is located on the banks of the River Duero in Fuentecén, close to the town of Burgos in Ribera Del Duero. The average age of the vineyards is 20 years old and the oldest is more than eighty years old. The oldest vineyards, with an average height 2,370 Feet (720m), have a very special stony soil.

The labels of the Hemar wines are elongated and depict a stylized bunch of three grapes, known as a "colgajo" in Spanish, at the end of a drawn out stem. This stalk marries with the tear-shaped grape in matching style on the corresponding side of the bottle top to enhance the harmony of the entire package. The design of both label and top is work of the renowned local artist, Jose Luis Abajo. The owners of Hemar felt that an original and eye-catching label was a priority for this wine, to break away from the over classical approach chosen by so many wineries of the region. The design is open to a certain license of interpretation, depending on how the label is viewed.
