Background Vacceos is produced by Agrícola Castellana. Agrícola Castellana, located in the heart of the D.O Rueda in Castilla y León, was founded in 1935 in the town of La Seca (Valladolid) by a group of thirty winegrowers wishing to add value to their products. Today, it consists of over 300 members who cultivate 2000 hectares of vineyards. From the beginning of its history, Agricola Castellana has been known as a modern cutting edge winery. Its quick adaptation to the techniques in viticulture and winemaking has contributed enormously to ensure their wines are of the highest quality.
The vineyards are situated on the undulating terrain of a plateau and are conditioned by the influence of the River Duero that runs through the northern part of the region. The grape vines enjoy protection from the river basins and nearby surroundings which due to the constitution of the soils in D.O. Rueda promote fruit of an excellent quality. The climate is continental by nature with cold winters and short hot summers. Rainfall is concentrated in spring and autumn. The average altitude of the region is 700 meters to 800 meters above sea level. The terrain is stony and poor in organic matter with good aeration and drainage. The soils are dark grey-brown and are rich in calcium and magnesium and tend to be gravelly but are easy to farm. The texture of the soil is variable although in general they range from sandy-loamy to loamy and they are permeable and healthy. In D.O. Rueda both the soil and the climate are fundamental factors which make the wines unique.
